Questions to ask at your first meeting with a coach and a short checklist for choosing the right lessons.

The right coach can make the difference between falling in love with tennis and giving it up. Knowing what to ask before your first meeting saves both time and money.

1. Be clear about your goal

Do you want to play as a hobby, are you looking for lessons for your child, or are you preparing for tournaments? Your goal directly determines the coach and type of lesson you choose.

2. Questions to ask a coach

  • Which levels and age groups do you teach?
  • What coaching qualifications and experience do you have?
  • Which court are the lessons held on? Is the court fee included?
  • How long is a lesson?
  • Do you provide rackets and balls?
  • What are your cancellation and rescheduling terms?
  • Is a trial lesson possible?

3. Private or group lessons?

Private lessons offer faster progress; group lessons offer a social and more affordable setting. For a detailed comparison, see private or group lessons?

4. Court and location

Antalya is a large city. Living in Konyaaltı and travelling to Lara for lessons can make it hard to keep going regularly. Using the area filter when looking for a coach makes things easier. Also remember that private lessons aren’t given on the municipal courts; agree on the court from the start.

5. Times and climate

In summer, early mornings and evenings are in demand. Ask about the coach’s availability for these times in advance.

6. Ask what the fee covers

Lesson fees vary by coach, lesson length, court fee and group size. When comparing, don’t just look at the number; check whether the court fee and equipment are included.

Short checklist

Question✓
Do they teach my level and age group?
Is the lesson location close to me, and is the court fee clear?
Do the times suit me?
Are the fee and cancellation terms clear?
Did they listen to my goals in the first lesson?
